A Basic Barbecue Sauce is a lot easier than people think. With more control over the ingredients going in, the easier it is to make adjustments later. Want it smoky? Add smoked chili pepper. Want it sweet? Add honey. It's a flexible combination that you can truly make the way you want. How did I use it? I prepped a BBQ Chicken Lasagna, personal-sized, with this sauce, fresh veggies, and chopped tomatoes, baked into a sweet and spicy mouthful.
Ingredients
Servings: 1 Cup
Prep Time: ~15min
2/3 Cup Water
1/4 Tsp Salt
1 Tsp Onion Powder
1 Tsp Garlic Powder
4 Tbsp Tomato Paste
5 Tbsp Brown Sugar
2 Tsp White Vinegar
2 Tsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 Tsp Chili Powder, Smoked
In a small saucepan, heat the water with onion, garlic, and salt on medium. Stir in the tomato paste until smooth. Stir in the brown sugar and cook on medium-high until browned. Add remaining ingredients until well-mixed and cook until bubbles lightly form. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature before storing in the refrigerator.
